Schools are for learning.
Parks are for playing.
Louisiana schools and parks should be safe places for our youth. Youth learn by example. Exposing youth to tobacco in schools and parks sets a bad example.
The Spitfire Campaign advocates for tobacco-free schools and parks to send the right message to our youth: smokeless ≠ harmless. We are gathering community support to encourage schools and parks to implement and enforce comprehensive tobacco-free policies across Louisiana.
It’s time to take charge and make change. Just because tobacco is legal, it does not mean it should be allowed everywhere. Policies to make schools and parks smoke-free do not go far enough – tobacco is tobacco. Louisiana schools and parks should be free from all forms of tobacco.
After School Team Builder...
The Start Corporation after school group met on Wednesday, April 27 for a team builder from 4-5:30pm and to form a new coalition as we prepare to meet with the City Council of Thibodaux. Our plan is to make parks and recreation areas smoke and tobacco free. There were 9 youth and 6 adults present for the event. Special guest speaker, Mickey Fonceca, spoke about his first hand experience in policy changes in Terrebonne Parish.
